When I was young I remember seeing John F. Kennedy and the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King together on church fans and other pictures. To some the name Kennedy was as important as the name King often viewed as the United States Royal family. This idea of royalty was evident in 1999 while living in Germany I watched as a somber came over some of my German friends and those who created memorials at the United States Embassy when they learned of the death of John F. Kennedy Jr.
In tragedy and grace we have watched some of the younger Kennedy's tarnish the Kennedy name and have watched others restore the name. I believe that Ted Kennedy restored the Kennedy name when he and other members of the Kennedy family endorsed Barack Obama as the next president of these United States. It is my belief that his endorsement of Obama was an important part of getting Obama elected as the nations first black president. Although I didn't always agree with Edward "Ted" Kennedy's politics I am thankful that he embraced many causes that affect Black America and other disenfranchised groups and embraced brother Obama.
